Making the Most of Our Time

By Adam Low, CEO

Often when we hear the phrase “making the most of our time,” it evokes a sense of creating efficiency. And that would make sense coming from a CEO.

But in this case, I’m looking at a totally different perspective—enjoying our lives and our time together, taking time to stop and smell the proverbial roses. That idea was brought into stark reality when we lost a valued team member and friend, Jason Dudley.

It is not a cliché to say that life is precious. In fact, it should be part of our daily affirmation. Your life is precious. Your co-workers’ lives are precious. Our patients’ lives are precious. If we can hold fast to that truth, it might help us enjoy and savor the moments a little more.

We will miss Jason and are stunned by his loss. Losing friends and co-workers is painful, but perhaps it can remind us how important it is to greet each other and listen to what is bringing someone trouble or joy. It’s also a reminder to take time for ourselves. If you need help or time to take care of yourself, reach out and ask for it. Don’t put off your own visits to the doctor, and don’t delay changing the habits that can help your health or sleep or happiness.

At SENTA Partners, we support you. You are an integral part of this team, and we see how much you give of yourselves. Thank you for all that you do every day, in our practices and at the SENTA support center.

In Memoriam

Jason Dudley, SENTA Partners IT Department

Jason David Dudley, who had been working in the IT department of SENTA Partners for about 18 months and at Piedmont ENT for about 18 years prior to that, passed away after a brief illness on Sept. 1. Jason leaves behind his wife Colleen, his daughters Leah and Rachel, his mother and other extended family members and a team that is saddened by the loss, says Frank Hutchison, SENTA VP of IT.

Jason Dudley

“Jason was a guy I could always count on,” says Hutchison. “If a front desk person or physician or anyone called with an issue, he was on it. If we were analyzing a project, he’d work it over, figure it out and present his views on what we needed to do to get it done.”

Hutchison called him “a go-getter and a solid, wonderful person. I went into his office at Piedmont to clear out the few things of his that were still there since his move to corporate. On his desk, I found a name badge with the ID—‘The Man.’ That’s just what he was.”

Syreeta Ford at Piedmont ENT, who became a friend over the nearly 20 years they worked together, says, “He was the go-to guy. He was our resource for everything we needed—professionally and personally. I cannot count the number of times he helped me.”

She will miss him as a colleague and friend. “Even if he was overwhelmed, you’d never know it. He’d take the time to listen and help. He was a heck of a friend, and we all have Jason stories,” she says. Those help, she notes, as she and the team share those stories and try to lift each other’s spirits by responding how he might have.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta or to the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

New Learning Management Platform Coming Online
By Anbreen Babwani, Talent Development Manager

SENTA Partners is transferring to a new learning management system, Learn With SENTA, powered by Cornerstone. While the transition officially switches over on Jan. 1, 2023, employees will have the opportunity to learn more about the new system before that time.

Employees who are completing their compliance training now will see all training taken recorded in the new system. Employees who start after the first of the year will begin exclusively on the Learn With SENTA platform.

There are multiple benefits to this platform. Training can be conducted in a hybrid mix of some in-person and some video-based or interactive learning. The formatting for training was restricted in our current platform.

Cornerstone makes it much easier for managers to track training of employees in their units. So managers can reach out directly to employees to make sure that employees have the time necessary to finish the training, for example. It’s a powerful tool for managers to help plan performance success and training for professional development.

The smart system will make recommendations for employees as well. For example, an employee who takes some office management training may be prompted about additional leadership training, for example. Or someone who has taken some office management courses may be offered opportunities for a deeper dive into a particular software. Because this additional training resides with the Cornerstone platform, SENTA employees can take advantage of this broader catalog of courses.

Learn With SENTA is currently in pilot phase testing to ensure that employees’ information is being transferred correctly and completely. Stay tuned as we continue to bring you updates.

Physician Spotlight

SENTA Provides Physician With the Opportunity to Delegate Effectively

Since Robert Puchalski, MD, FAAOA, founded South Carolina ENT, Allergy & Sleep Medicine (SCENT) two decades ago, he has seen other practices succeed, fail and remain stagnant with no growth.

Dr. Puchalski

To ensure continued growth for SCENT, the practice joined SENTA in May 2022 to help delegate the administrative duties of 10 practice locations with nine board-certified physicians and four accredited sleep labs. Dr. Puchalski is also the South Carolina representative to the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery Board of Governors, a delegate to the American Medical Association representing the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy (AAOA) and a member of the ENTPAC and AAOA Boards. It’s safe to say he is a busy man.

Since joining SENTA, Dr. Puchalski says several tasks have been taken off his overflowing plate. “I receive help with administrative work, which gives me more time on my weekends,” Dr. Puchalski says with a smile. SCENT also receives marketing, software and recruitment support from SENTA representatives, whom Dr. Puchalski says have been “top notch.” SENTA partners can receive a range of assistance, from finance and advertising to onboarding programs and continued education support, while never sacrificing the patient experience.

“The health care landscape is changing quickly, and you have to keep up,” Dr. Puchalski says. “SENTA has been keeping up successfully. The value proposition was very strong with SENTA.”

He also uses his extra time to do more with his boards and his real estate endeavors, including the progress of a 20,000-square-foot flagship office and ambulatory surgery center that should be open by the end of the year.

“This partnership represents a new horizon for us,” he says. “It is so reassuring and comforting to have such a strong and diverse management team in our corner.”

MD Finds Support and Camaraderie at SENTA

During his fellowship year at Christiana Care Health System in Newark, Delaware, otolaryngologist Joseph Sciarrino, MD, FAAOA, had time to consider the type of work environment in which he wanted to start his career: the size, scope, support and atmosphere. He found what he was looking for at South Carolina ENT Allergy & Sleep Medicine (SCENT), but since the practice joined SENTA in May 2022, the already-positive aspects have only been strengthened.

Dr. Sciarrino

“The practice has seen geographical growth,” Dr. Sciarrino says, as it has added locations and hired more physicians since joining SENTA. “With the increased staff and support, we are able to provide efficient, high-level care to more patients.”

SENTA adds a sense of camaraderie, Dr. Sciarrino says. “Work culture is paramount. I know people I graduated with who are on their second or third job. When you get along well with people and have a support structure, the patients get better care and the providers are happier.” His advice is that new graduates or those looking for change should do their due diligence before they join a practice; it’s better for the candidate’s happiness and success in the long run—and it’s not helpful to patients to land in a position where the physician feels stuck and wants to get out.

“Make sure you join a workplace that has the same vision as you. Focus on growth and find a place that has a need for you, like SENTA,” he says.

“The communication with SENTA has been great,” Dr. Sciarrino says. He and his team have a standing bi-weekly phone call with SENTA support. “SENTA makes it a point to address any frustrations or inefficiencies immediately,” he says, even though he says those do not occur often. “SENTA wants to make the practice a better place to work.”

Dr. Sciarrino says he and his team feel confident that they can give their patients the best care while still making their day as efficient as possible with SENTA’s commitment to the latest in technology and equipment. They have access to business support and management, including marketing, team management and daily operation assistance.

Dr. Sciarrino has found a place that supports his goals and gives him the resources to achieve them at SENTA. He continues to develop his knowledge and network, and he doesn’t plan on going anywhere.

Recognition

Winner of Inaugural Everyday Hero Award Announced

Melissa Grooms, director of integrations at SENTA Partners, has been awarded the 2022 Everyday Hero Award. SENTA Partners is within the Shore Capital Partners portfolio.

Melissa Grooms

The award is meant to honor an employee who exemplifies growth, career development and commitment to SENTA and its affiliates. Grooms, the Everyday Hero Award’s first-ever recipient, seemed like an obvious choice to some, as she has been with SENTA “since day one.” She was a member of the team that helped establish the SENTA platform and the legal processes that came with it. Since then, she’s supported various initiatives through a variety of roles; she landed her current position in 2021.

Grooms often meets with new SENTA affiliates and gets to know each staff member one-on-one. “It’s inspiring to learn about what makes each company unique while being able to come together at SENTA to give all of our patients the best care possible.”

Grooms was also recently interviewed for an upcoming Shore podcast series; stay tuned for details!

While the Everyday Hero Award is brand new, the meaning it holds for Grooms is something she’s believed and lived by for a long time. “For me, this award is about manifesting what you want for yourself,” she says. “I never would’ve thought five years ago I’d be in the position I am today.”

“It’s been such an honor working with the team,” Grooms says. “I’m grateful that SENTA provided me the opportunity to grow and learn as much as I have.”
