A Commitment to Diversity

By Adam Low, CEO

Juneteenth is set aside as a day to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved Africans in America. As recognition of this holiday and all that it stands for increases, it’s being referred to as America’s second Independence Day. So at this point, between both of these holidays dedicated to American ideals, it seems like a good time to look at the positive aspects of having a workforce that represents the global communities we live in.

At SENTA, our core values focus on trust, respect and compassion. We believe that individuals with their varied interests, backgrounds and skillsets come together to create strong teams that can communicate and empathize well. Since we are in the business of supporting health care providers to deliver the best care to all of their patients, it makes sense for us to celebrate the diversity of our teams and all the good that comes from that.

That’s why we applaud the achievements large and small in these SENTA Communiqué newsletters. Welcoming the end of a hectic week and realizing that an entire team pulled together to make it run smoothly deserves applause. Celebrating a new baby into the world is a glorious moment. And bringing aboard new staff members who come to us with the latest training or a range of experiences makes us better able to fulfill our mission of supporting our SENTA Partner practices.

Two Doctors Discuss Benefits as SENTA Continues to Evolve Its Resources

Stanley Fineman, MD, grew up in Atlanta, George, while Meera Patrawala, MD, moved south to the Atlanta area for her residency and fellowship. They have found common ground in their passion to treat patients in a way that allows them to be efficient and use their skills to the best of their abilities. Now working together at Atlanta Allergy & Asthma (AA&A), they understand the benefits of a partnership with SENTA.

Dr. Fineman and Dr. Patrawala

When Dr. Patrawala was completing her allergy fellowship training at Emory University School of Medicine, she spent time with Dr. Fineman, who also serves on the teaching faculty at Emory, in the AA&A clinic and noticed that it wasn’t just the patients who seemed happy—the providers did, too. Everyone who walked into the clinic had their needs understood, appreciated and cared for. Dr. Patrawala was excited about the support and networking she had experienced firsthand as a fellow and knew that was the type of place she wanted to build her professional future. After starting her career, Dr. Patrawala says that she had a great experience not just with the other providers in the clinic, but with the way the clinic was functioning.

“Clearly, being part of SENTA is an advantage,” Dr. Fineman says. He and his team receive administrative, marketing and hiring support, as well as human resources support, the latest supplies and technology, and a welcoming and organized workspace in a state-of-the-art facility. Dr. Fineman and Dr. Patrawala also recognize and appreciate the access to staffing and hiring support, especially as they continue to deal with staffing shortages.

Infrastructure and staff support mean that the doctors need to spend less time with administrative chores and more time face-to-face with patients, increasing productivity and maximizing profitability. “SENTA is focused on helping us provide state-of-the-art clinical care for our patients,” says Dr. Fineman.

“The support we have is unique,” Dr. Patrawala says. “We’re functioning solely as doctors, and the support from SENTA allows us to do that.”

Dr. Fineman also supervises the clinical research at AA&A. Dr. Patrawala, whose focus now is on patient care, can envision the opportunity to do research as well at some point in her career. “We have a lot of professional opportunities, and I’m fortunate be able to enjoy my professional career in my hometown,” Dr. Fineman says.

SENTA Support Helps NP Thrive

Neethu Athimattathil, MSN, recently started as a family nurse practitioner at her Atlanta Allergy & Asthma (AA&A) location. While looking for a position, Neethu realized that there were three areas where she didn’t want to compromise: the specialty, the environment and the co-workers. She already had an interest in allergy, so that box was checked at AA&A. However, she didn’t just want to see patients and go home; she wanted to feel like part of a family. “I could feel that the environment was very positive and supportive from day one. They cared about making me feel comfortable,” she says.

Neethu Athimattathil, MSN

Neethu had a variety of work experience before landing at AA&A. After working at a long-term care facility and an emergency department, she realized how much of a difference SENTA’s training, resources and connections had made in her professional role. “Always look for a place that will support you,” she says. “You have that with SENTA.”

SENTA’s orientation and training materials allowed her to feel more secure. From administrative support to education to the best resources and products, SENTA has helped her hit the ground running and feel confident as an advanced practice practitioner.

Neethu also noticed the low turnover rate at her SENTA office. People were coming to work and weren’t leaving after a year to find better support or resources; instead, they were sticking around and creating a career with SENTA. “That’s a sign you’re at a good company,” she says.

She and the other providers have used SENTA tools to help them decrease wait times, which creates an increase in patient satisfaction and allows providers to see more patients in a day, filling their schedules and increasing profitability. Neethu also realizes that SENTA’s resources can make initial visits less overwhelming for patients. She has been able to use SENTA resources to educate patients and herself on the latest and greatest products and options and make sure that her patients are coming back.

As she eases into her new position, Neethu says she hopes to take on students of her own in the future. She wants to influence the next generation of providers to be the best that they can be, both for their patients and their own career advancement and well-being. After her training with SENTA, she feels confident in her ability to pass along all that she’s learned.

Recent Grad Has Found Her Place With SENTA

Hannah Vinyard, MSN, FNP-C, has only been at her new Atlanta Allergy & Asthma location for about six weeks as a family nurse practitioner (FNP), and already she is seeing the value of starting her career with SENTA.

Hannah Vinyard, MSN, FNP-C

As a recent grad, Hannah has had the opportunity to navigate the job market and see firsthand how SENTA can make your transition into a new job as organized and straightforward as possible. “The orientation process with SENTA has been incredible,” she says. “Training can be tough, but they’re easing me into it. New employees want a lot of orientation time, and that is something that is valued at SENTA.”

She is now working with two of her former classmates, and she appreciates that she’s with an organization eager to take on new grads. “I love that they’ve hired the three of us,” Hannah says. “They’re not afraid of new ideas, and it shows that they trust us.”

She also notices how supportive and knowledgeable SENTA doctors have been, both with patients and newly hired providers. Since day one, she has noticed that doctors take the time to work closely with new NPs, even on busy days. “The doctors I work with are incredible. They’re never frustrated with us, and they want to share their knowledge.”

While she is still learning the ropes at her new position, she is already thinking about how she’d like to continue her career. In a few years’ time, she’d like to earn her PhD and have the opportunity to conduct research with SENTA—specifically on how gut health can alter the immune response—and with SENTA’s abundance of resources and support, there may well be the opportunity to do that.

Physician Assistant Makes Connections Both On and Off the Job

After moving back to her college town with her husband and 2-year-old, Victoria White wanted to become part of her community and get into a position quickly—but not just any position. She wanted to land somewhere she felt she could grow her career and become a better provider. She also wanted to have the opportunity to get to know and understand the patients she was treating in her community rather than feeling disconnected from them.

Victoria White

After working in ENT for six years, Victoria landed a job at ENT and Allergy Associates of South Georgia as a physician assistant. She says she immediately noticed how efficient the hiring process was, especially in today’s job market in which the interview process can take weeks, if not months. “SENTA makes it easier in every aspect,” she says. “It’s more streamlined… everybody’s been very professional and helpful.”

Victoria says that the best part of her job so far is the connections she’s been able to make, both with other providers and patients. She says the team was welcoming and willing to help ease her into her position. Building relationships with co-workers and patients, she has been able to meet people and become a part of the community that she serves. As a new mom, she also loves to treat kids—something she says she gets to do daily. SENTA has given her the opportunity to provide her community with support, resources, products and technology that has not only enhanced her practice but improved the lives of those living around her. This has helped her connect with her neighborhood and form lasting patient relationships and friendships, both in and outside of the office.

Victoria hopes to take care of patients in her community for years to come, with SENTA’s resources and network there to help her grow along the way.

Teamwork Covers the Gaps
By Jami Geck, CPME

It is important to not only thank employees for a job well done but also to do it publicly when a team has risen to the occasion. At ENT of Carolina recently, two of the schedulers were out. On similar occasions, the team got behind on referrals, but that week, they were 100 percent caught up with incoming and outgoing calls.

Part of that is due to how well the Shelby team listened and embraced scheduling changes. Our team is not on Brevium, so this is still a manual task for us. One afternoon, Veka Parrish stayed after hours calling June no-shows and cancellations to recapture those visits.

Meanwhile, Lydia Elmore, at the front desk, called patient self-referrals from Phreesia. Taylor Galloway and Jackie Greene worked hard to keep the next week full for all providers, while answering the phones and checking in allergy patients.

Lisa Mullinax stayed busy scheduling CT scans, as June is a high-volume month. I see faxes daily from Stacy Ruiz scheduling surgeries, all while she’s training Jackie.

The team clicked on all cylinders, demonstrating a perfect example of teamwork.

Welcoming Ryker

Kim Dixon, a revenue cycle management (RCM) staff member at ENT Carolina is expecting (or may have just welcomed) baby boy Ryker. The RCM staff hosted a shower for her at the start of June. So welcome to the larger SENTA family, Ryker.
