Clinical Focus and Support Allows Doctor to Be the Best She Can Be
When Meera Mehta Patrawala, MD, was completing her clinical rotations as a Fellow, she had the opportunity to rotate through Atlanta Allergy & Asthma (AA&A). Many rotations focus on academic and hospital settings, but she was fortunate to have the opportunity to spend time in a private practice. So when the doctors approached her about joining the practice, “I already knew its culture and reputation,” she says.

The one difference was that AA&A had not been part of the SENTA group when she rotated through the practice. “I was introduced to SENTA during the hiring process, and I was pleased to see that the mission and culture were very similar,” she says. The leadership welcomed her and took time to answer her questions. “We are all looking at ways to make the practice more available and accessible to more patients,” she says.
That is why Dr. Patrawala went into medicine: to help patients. “I chose allergy and immunology because I was looking for that patient-faced specialty. I feel that this practice is going to give me the balance of being able to see adults and children, achieve a good work/life balance and be supported so that I can be the best doctor I can be.”
The practice’s strong support system of other physicians and assistants helps create a well-run, evidence-based practice with which she wanted to align. “I could see that there was autonomy in what I could do and also the collegial atmosphere so that I could reach out if I needed help,” she says. She’s been impressed with SENTA’s commitment to creating the best possible workplace in these difficult pandemic times.
Another draw was the fact that SENTA practices are involved in clinical trials. “That’s something I really enjoyed doing when I was working at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. It’s a unique scenario to have access to clinical trials in a private practice,” she says. Still very new to the practice, she has set her short-term goals to familiarize herself with the patients and staff and processes of the practice. Still, knowing that the possibility of engaging with clinical trials in the future was a real plus, she says.
