Fourth Quarter: Goalposts in Sight
By Adam Low, CEO

As everyone who watches football knows, some pretty exciting things can happen in the fourth quarter. Emotions and adrenaline are running high. A fumble or an interception can turn the tide of momentum for one team.

The fourth quarter of the business year can force some scramble plays, too. Our offices tend to get busier, even as we are still operating under some unusual conditions because of COVID-19. But you’ve shown tremendous teamwork this year, and that convinces me that we are going to be able to finish 2021 strong.

A great team sees a win within reach. Team members play through the scenarios of what it takes to get the ball just those few extra inches to keep the play alive. That’s the kind of action we’re seeing now. How can we tweak the routes that we’ve been practicing all year to accommodate the schedule of the last several weeks of the year? Who can step in and deliver? Each of us has a role, and I want to commend you all for your willingness to show up, put patients first and deliver on the promise of fulfilling our mission.

On three: 1, 2, 3—Go Team!

Clinical Focus and Support Allows Doctor to Be the Best She Can Be

When Meera Mehta Patrawala, MD, was completing her clinical rotations as a Fellow, she had the opportunity to rotate through Atlanta Allergy & Asthma (AA&A). Many rotations focus on academic and hospital settings, but she was fortunate to have the opportunity to spend time in a private practice. So when the doctors approached her about joining the practice, “I already knew its culture and reputation,” she says.

The one difference was that AA&A had not been part of the SENTA group when she rotated through the practice. “I was introduced to SENTA during the hiring process, and I was pleased to see that the mission and culture were very similar,” she says. The leadership welcomed her and took time to answer her questions. “We are all looking at ways to make the practice more available and accessible to more patients,” she says.

That is why Dr. Patrawala went into medicine: to help patients. “I chose allergy and immunology because I was looking for that patient-faced specialty. I feel that this practice is going to give me the balance of being able to see adults and children, achieve a good work/life balance and be supported so that I can be the best doctor I can be.”

The practice’s strong support system of other physicians and assistants helps create a well-run, evidence-based practice with which she wanted to align. “I could see that there was autonomy in what I could do and also the collegial atmosphere so that I could reach out if I needed help,” she says. She’s been impressed with SENTA’s commitment to creating the best possible workplace in these difficult pandemic times.

Another draw was the fact that SENTA practices are involved in clinical trials. “That’s something I really enjoyed doing when I was working at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. It’s a unique scenario to have access to clinical trials in a private practice,” she says. Still very new to the practice, she has set her short-term goals to familiarize herself with the patients and staff and processes of the practice. Still, knowing that the possibility of engaging with clinical trials in the future was a real plus, she says.

Eager to Tell the SENTA Story

Meet Steve Zaychik, Director of M&A and Corporate Development

Steve Zaychik

Steve joined SENTA from Atlanticus, a facilitator of consumer financial solutions, where he was responsible for executing strategic growth initiatives, direct/indirect investing and acquisitions. He has also worked in both corporate development and operational roles at MedAssets, a provider of hospital-focused revenue cycle management and spend management solutions, and was a health care investment banking analyst at Wachovia Securities.

He says that SENTA is a great fit because it’s a “growing organization led by a strong executive team and a great vision that I believe in. It will give me the opportunity to bring the skills that I have developed over my career to help advance additional partnership opportunities.”

Steve adds that SENTA’s strong physician focus is a real differentiator in the market. “The investments we can make in businesses will help strengthen them, but the clinical decision-making stays in the clinic,” he says.

Steve grew up in the metro Atlanta area and is a graduate of Goizueta Business School at Emory University (BBA). In his free time, Steve enjoys spending time with his family, exploring Atlanta’s dining scene, working out and travelling.

We’re on the Same Team
By Len Schiavone, Chief Operations Officer

Do you know your teammates? I’m not talking just about the people who are in the same office or clinic as you, but I’m including all who are on the SENTA team. Here’s why that’s important. A young adult patient, who has been under the care at Atlanta Allergy and Asthma, attends Valdosta State and chose ENT and Allergy Associates of South Georgia as his new care provider. He didn’t realize that both practices are part of the SENTA network—so the process for him—and for the staff in both practices—could have been smoother.

The advantage of internal referrals is that we can assure the patient that we are ensuring continuous care to excellent, trusted physicians. We can help take the guesswork out of looking for a new doctor. On the administrative side, we’ll make it easy for the doctors to access the patient’s medical history.

Making a referral between SENTA providers is one way to extend the high quality of care you are providing. So get to know who’s on your team. When we follow the referral playbook, we all win.

Tailgate Tuesday Fun

The team from ENT of South Georgia shows its team spirit.

Some of the team from ENT and Allergy Associates of South Georgia had fun on a recent Tailgate Tuesday, where staff members could wear their favorite sports team t-shirt. Employees love the chance to take a few steps away from the daily routine, says Practice Administrator Joy M. Schunhoff.

Employee Crystal Tompkins says these kinds of activities are great. “I learn things about my work partners that I never knew. It’s nice to have a break to just enjoy each other’s company and the nice weather. I hope to be able to do this more.” Her co-worker Kimberly Kennedy also enjoyed Tailgate Tuesday. “It was a great way of getting to know the new employees and for them to get to know us. Oh, and the weather was beautiful.”

Get Vaccinated for Those Around You

Although there have not—as of this moment—been updates to the Executive Order implementing a vaccine mandate for health care workers, we at SENTA feel that as health care providers, we should be modeling the behavior that is in the interest of public health. We encourage all eligible employees to get their vaccinations—and their boosters when available.

With the possibility of sudden surges or the development of new variants, the best protection available today is the combination of getting vaccinated and maintaining safety and hygiene protocols. Do it for yourself and your family. Do it for those in the community who cannot.

Benefits Renewal Coming Soon

The HR team is working through the 2022 benefits renewal process. You can expect to hear more about those as soon as they are finalized.
